G'day Developers!

I'm just back from Gurgaon, New Delhi where SSW held its first ever Professional Scrum Developers course in India. I took 2 of my scrum guys, Adam Stephensen and Damian Brady with me, and while we were there, we were treated to some amazing food and hospitality. We were even given a gift when we left the hotel!

The course combined lectures, demos, discussions, and plenty of group and individual exercises. We spoke about Scrum, TFS and Visual Studio, and general software engineering practices. There was some great feedback from the 24 students.

Here are some highlights from the week:

SSW SQL Deploy The Business Case for the SharePoint Social Features

Marlon Marescia the Sales Manager at SSW has just interviewed Rob Finney from Microsoft on his podcast https://www.talkingOffice365.com/ where they discussed how these social features of SharePoint can make a business more productive.

SharePoint includes many social features which not only improve communication between staff members, but gives them the ability to improve the find-ability of important data as they work. This makes data access easier every time SharePoint is used.

During the interview Marlon and Rob discussed the following:

  • An overview of the social features in SharePoint including:
    • My Sites
    • Profile pages
    • Blogs
    • Wikis
    • Tagging
    • People search
    • Skillsets
    • Org charts
  • The business challenges solved by these social features of SharePoint
  • Examples of how businesses have used the social features successfully
  • The types of businesses that get maximum value from these features

Juval Lwy -
The Architect's Master Class (5 day course)

Juval Lowy

31 Days to go!

Juval Lowy's - The Architect's Master Class Monday 11th - Friday 15th July 2011
9:00am - 6:00pm
Gateway Court Suite 10
81 - 91 Military Road
Neutral Bay, NSW
Cost: $2,600

Please Note - This is a one off course and seats are strictly limited!

The Architect's Master Class is a 5 day training course, and is the ultimate resource for the professional architect. The class is conducted in the style of a Master Class, where a Master Architect shares his experience and perspective, and interacts with his students.

The class has three parts, on process, technology & SOA, and the IDesign method for analysis and design. The class shows the architect how to take an active leadership role on all three aspects, as a continuum, since when executing a design, one cannot separate process, design and technology - all three have to work in concert. While the class shows how to design modern systems using SOA and WCF, it sets the focus on the 'why' and the rationale behind particular design decisions, often shedding light on poorly understood aspects.

You will see relevant design guidelines, best practices, and pitfalls, and the crucial process required of today's modern architects. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to learn and improve your architecture skills with Juval Lowy, and share his passion for architecture and software engineering.

Project Cloudbreaker: Sync your CRM

Speaker: George Doubinski

Welcome to Just Cloud Inc - a company that runs just about everything in the cloud. They have been using Microsoft CRM Online 2011 since January 2011. The sales, marketing & customer service departments love it. They also moved their accounting system from the desktop to the cloud and as of July 2011 (new financial year), use only cloud-based accounting. The legal & accounting departments are loving it. Now they face the problem of multiple data entry, duplicate information and discrepancies between sales and accounting. The CEO & CIO are not happy. Enter project "Cloudbreaker": integration of Microsoft CRM Online 2011 and other cloud-based systems such as accounting and email marketing using Windows Azure-based services and Microsoft Sync Framework.

Continuous Delivery with TFS, msbuild and msdeploy

Speaker: Peter Gfader

If you are deploying your software manually, you are doing it wrong. If you are deploying once a month, you are doing it wrong. If you as a developer are deploying from Visual Studio by clicking "Publish", you are doing it wrong. If a bug-fix takes you 1 hour but your customer needs to wait a week until he gets it, you are doing it wrong. Manual deployments are NOT fun. See a good way on how to automate the deployment with TFS 2010, msbuild and msdeploy.
